"I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended."Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

"and if ever I touched a life I hope that life knows/
that I know that touching was and still is and will always/
be the true/
She drank from a bottle called DRINK ME
and she grew so tall.
She ate from a plate called TASTE ME
and down she shrank so small.
And so she changed, while other folks
… Never tried nothing at all."
"What I regret most in my life are failures of kindness."
George Saunders is a brilliant and insightful writer. He is also someone who I’ve met and spoken with at length several times, and each time I talk to him I am further impressed by him as a man. Smart and funny and decent. Honestly, he is a rare hero and his advice to graduates is something worth reading for all of us who hope to be better people in the world.
